NTU London and the Harris Federation have launched a new partnership to support the next generation of young musicians, with students taking part in the inaugural Harris Battle of the Bands.
The event brought together bands from Harris Crystal Palace, Harris Greenwich, Harris Peckham, Harris Clapham and Harris Beckenham, alongside a cross-federation band, for a full day of rehearsals, mentoring and live performance at NTU London's professional music facilities.
Working alongside NTU London academics, each band spent the morning rehearsing in the studios, receiving feedback and refining their performances ahead of the afternoon's live showcase. The experience gave students the opportunity to develop their musicianship while experiencing the facilities and learning environment available at NTU London.
The standard of performance throughout the competition was exceptional. Audiences enjoyed an eclectic mix of music, from Stevie Wonder classics to Arctic Monkeys favourites, with each band bringing its own style, energy and creativity to the stage.
Performances were judged by a panel of NTU London academics, who praised the quality of musicianship, stage presence and originality on display. After a closely contested competition, Harris Greenwich was named the first Harris Battle of the Bands champion, winning a half-day recording session in NTU London's Dolby Atmos studios.
The event marks the beginning of what both organisations hope will become an annual celebration of young musical talent, strengthening links between the Harris Federation and NTU London while giving students the opportunity to perform, collaborate and experience university-level creative education.
Congratulations to every student who took part, and to Harris Greenwich on a well-earned victory.
