Hedgehog Friendly Campus Mansfield
NTU Mansfield signed up to Hedgehog Friendly Campus and achieved Bronze Award in 2023/24 before successfully achieving Silver Award in 2024/25!
Our dedicated hedgehog ambassadors at the Mansfield Hub have been busy raising awareness, building habitats, and championing our prickly friends.
Here are just a few of our favourite hedgehog-friendly actions so far:
- Raised over £650 for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society—smashing our original target by 250%!
- Expanded hedgehog habitats with log piles, native wildflowers, and pond ramps to help hedgehogs thrive.
- Surveyed the campus using camera traps and footprint tunnels—capturing clear evidence of hedgehog activity right here at Mansfield!
- Launched a litter-picking campaign and installed a permanent litter-pick station in the library for staff and students to use anytime.
But they're not stopping at Silver… Gold, Here We Come!
The Mansfield team is already gearing up for the Gold Award in 2025/26, inspired by the impact and enthusiasm generated so far. Want to get involved? Email sustainability@ntu.ac.uk!
We love being part of Hedgehog Friendly Campus so much that we can’t imagine not being involved in the future. NTU has already achieved platinum recognition, and as a new NTU site, we are very ambitious to reach that target for the Mansfield Hub too. We have so many ideas and are very excited about the actions we can complete next year.
