Broadcast Journalism

About Broadcast Journalism

This course prepares students for careers in the broadcast news industry through hands-on, industry-focused practice. Accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council, it emphasises real-world learning through newsroom-style activities and industry-standard facilities.

As part of the second-year Step into Industry module, students work in teams to produce a podcast series and accompanying social media campaign in partnership with local charities across Nottingham and the East Midlands.

Example of Previous Projects

Framework – A Nottingham-based homelessness charity supporting people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Bags of Blessings – A charity providing toys, food, and essential items to families experiencing financial hardship.

The Feeling Connected Project – An organisation working to reduce loneliness and isolation in communities across North Derbyshire.

“The podcasts have helped partner organisations reach wider audiences and
strengthen their public profiles. Partners have reported increased engagement,
donations, and interest in their services, as well as using the content to support funding applications and awareness campaigns.”

Gail Mellors, Senior Lecturer
