The Student Success Endowment: Lexie
The Student Success Endowment supports Law student Lexie by covering membership and equipment costs for the NTU Hockey team, enabling her to stay active, build confidence, form lasting friendships and make the most of her university experience alongside her studies.
This funding has meant that I am able to carry on playing the sport that I love, whilst also being able to balance my academic and extra-curricular activities, without the stress of worrying about how to finance my commitments.
Lexie, LLB Law
My name is Lexie, and I am in my first year of study on the LLB Law (Hons) course.
From a young age, I have always loved playing hockey, including for my school, county and regional hockey teams. The level of women’s hockey at NTU is of a very high standard, so I was extremely excited to get the opportunity to come and play for the University. The funding provided by the Student Success Endowment (SSE) has given me the financial support needed to pay for my NTU Hockey membership, meaning I have been able to represent the University both in British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) league matches and in the Saturday league, helping my team to win and get promoted from their Saturday league.
Through this I have met friends that I hope to keep for life and created memories that I will hold on to forever. The opportunity to play hockey at NTU has allowed me to improve my confidence and self-esteem, through playing with people from a range of year groups and being part of social events. This funding has meant that I am able to carry on playing the sport that I love, whilst also being able to balance my academic and other extra-curricular activities, without the stress of worrying about how to finance my commitments.
In the short-term future, I hope to be able to continue improving my self-confidence and discipline through playing University hockey, and by training in the summer and in pre-season. I would also like to gain more experience in the legal sector, through insight days and schemes throughout the summer and my second year. Ultimately, in the future I aspire to continue playing hockey at the highest level I can, as well as qualifying as a Solicitor, specifically in the field of sports law as this is an area that combines my personal interests.

Animation student and self-taught artist Zahra used support from the Student Success Endowment to cover travel and accommodation costs for a volunteering opportunity at the Manchester Animation Festival. The experience enabled her to make industry contacts and gain insight into the sector.

For Graphic Design student Paige, the Student Success Endowment helps her pursue her creative career ambitions and manage her daily commute. The funding contributes towards materials for her artistic portfolio as she prepares for a career in illustration, while also supporting driving lessons.
