The Student Success Endowment: Liza

My life changed completely three years ago when I moved to England due to the war in Ukraine. I am a law student now, and also the first person in my family to attend university, making my journey even more significant as I navigate both a rigorous law degree and the realities of being independent. University represents more than just academic growth for me; it is a gateway to a future I have long envisioned. My decision to study law stems from my passion for justice and my desire to support others, particularly those in vulnerable situations.

Beyond my studies, I have a deep passion for trying new activities, especially learning languages, and exploring different sports. In my second year at university, I started a language program to learn Arabic.
I have also been actively involved in various sports clubs, including shooting, boxing, yoga, and Pilates. These activities not only keep me physically active but also contribute to my mental well-being and personal growth. Engaging in such a diverse range of activities has helped me to build resilience and adaptability, skills that are valuable both in my studies and future legal career.

One of the ways the Student Success Endowment (SSE) has helped me is by providing the financial flexibility to engage with professional opportunities. Thanks to this support, I have been able to attend networking events, law firm insight days, and legal conferences that have expanded my understanding of the legal profession and helped me build essential industry connections. These experiences have not only enhanced my confidence but also given me a clearer vision of my career trajectory. The funding also helped alleviate my financial stress during the exam period, and I was able to save a small part of the bursary for further education trips or courses.

Beyond professional development, the support made possible by the SSE has allowed me to focus more on my studies without the constant stress of financial constraints. It has helped cover essential academic expenses and given me more time to dedicate to my coursework.
Looking ahead, I intend to use future support to further expand my professional network, attend legal workshops, and to support myself during internship opportunities.
