Our staff

We have a number of full-time staff members who are responsible for the day-to-day running of the Centre. Find out more about their roles and get in touch if you have any questions.

  • Laura Pinkney

    Laura Pinkney, Head of Department

    Laura, a Legal 500 solicitor, joined the Centre in January 2019 and is responsible for the day to day management of the Centre, working with Jenny on strategy and development. Laura supervises the Miscarriage of Justice Project and will be developing further criminal law services in 2019/20. Laura sits on the ABS Management Board and Board of Directors for Nottingham Law School Legal Advice Centre Limited. Laura is also part of the Law School’s Senior Management Team. Laura is a Council Member and Past President of Nottinghamshire Law Society (President 2018/19) and is also a trustee of local charity, Improving Lives. Laura has over 15 years of experience in private practice, having previously been a director at national firm, Cartwright King. Whilst in private practice, Laura specialised in serious fraud and confiscation and was head of department for both crime and immigration. Laura was also a member of Cartwright King’s senior management team and had operational responsibility for over 200 staff, across offices nationwide.

  • Mathew Game

    Mat leads the Centre’s Employment Law Service and supervises cases on a large range of employment related matters, both contentious and non-contentious work. Mat supervises students doing employment tribunal work with Free Representation Unit Nottingham. He also works with a number of employers in drafting their employment handbooks and provides seminar updates for SME’s and charities. Mat is part of the Centre’s operational management team and contributes to the development and training of students who work with us as part of credit-bearing modules. Mat joined the Centre in 2016 and was previously a solicitor in private practice.

  • Ashley Fredericks

    Ashley leads the Business and Enterprise Law Service and supervises cases across contentious and non-contentious business law issues from initial start-up right through to advising directors post business insolvency. Ashley also leads on the professional negligence work carried out by the Centre, which was a new development in 2018/19. He is part of the Centre’s operational management team, and in addition contributes to the development and training of students who work in the Centre as part of credit-bearing modules. Outside of the Centre, Ashley is a trustee and director at Citizens Advice Nottingham & District. In June 2019, Ashley was appointed as a trustee at the UK Clinical Legal Education Organisation, a charity that promotes the education of future lawyers via practical legal experience involving real clients and cases. Before joining the Centre, Ashley was a solicitor at national firm, Gateley Plc.

    Callum oversees the Welfare Benefits and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities services at the Centre. Callum also supervises student representatives in Social Security appeals, undertaken through the Nottingham branch of the Free Representation Unit (FRU) which operates from the Centre.

    Carlota supports the Head of the Legal Advice Centre on the development and delivery of the Centre’s strategic and operational plans with responsibility for the leadership and management of the administrative resources within the Centre.

  • Melissa Bailey

    Melissa is responsible for the effective administration and organisation of the designated administrative functions of the Centre, providing frontline support to Centre staff, NLS Academic staff, students and other internal and external stakeholders.
