Welcome to NTU Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, part of the fastest growing clubs at the University – the sport is fun, challenging and teaches effective self-defence, all in a fun friendly team environment.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial art which specialises in the grappling aspect of combat, with the overarching  goal of becoming effective in self-defence.

Our focus is prioritised on three fundamentals: Providing a diverse friendly team environment, learning self-defence, and giving students an outlet to compete under the NTU banner.

We cater for both beginners and experienced members. All are welcomed to represent the University at competitive level, where there are competitions which consist of categories that range from Beginner to Advanced. We have a host of members that simply train for self-defence, fitness and fun. NTU BJJ have been crowned UKBJJA National Champions for the last 5 years running, which we have been fortunate to host in 2019. We are proud of this status and look forward for the new recruits to maintain it.

Head coach, Giuseppe Lannucci, is a brown belt with 20-years wrestling experience which builds solid foundations for your Jiu-Jitsu game.

Gradings take place throughout the year so your commitment could see you progress through the belts.

We train on the following days throughout week, with sessions at both the City and Clifton campuses:

  • Monday – City Sports Hall, 8-9.30 pm
  • Wednesday – Clifton Sports Hall 2, 10-12 noon
  • Thursday – City Studio, 3-5 pm
  • Friday – City Sports Hall, 3-5 pm
  • Saturday – City Studio, Female Only, 12-1 pm
  • Saturday – City Studio, Mixed/Comp, 1-3 pm
  • Sunday – City Studio, 7-9 pm

How to join

The cost for the BJJ club is £110 for the year. Memberships purchased at any point during the academic year are only valid until the end of term 3.

Specific kit isn’t an essential, simple tight-fitted gym wear is acceptable. It is reminded that there are no shoes allowed on mats. Gum shields are recommended for sparring. Upon request it is possible to purchase NTU BJJ rashguards (supplied by SubGuards) and NTU BJJ Gi’s (supplied by Progress). Just speak to one of our committee members who can help you through the process.
