Burlesque is a cabaret style of dancing that includes (always optional) strip teases. It’s all about empowerment; allowing you to feel good in your body, regardless of shape, size, ability or gender.
The Trent Tigerlilies are an inclusive group of strong, positive and uplifting individuals of all dance abilities - you don’t need to have any dance experience to join and we don’t hold auditions! We all learn and grow together as inclusive community.
Join our classes to learn a variety of routine including traditional burlesque, sassy modern commercial and fun rock and roll numbers. Learn freestyle and technical dance whilst also being taught strip moves, such as glove and stocking peeling, and performance technique with professional coaches and an amazing group of people. You'll learn the art of dancing with a prop such as chairs, feather boas and fans to unleash your inner burlesque star!
Three times a year we put on a fantastic show to demonstrate our hardworking and stunning dancers! These fall around the end of each term at Christmas, Valentines and May. All of our proceeds go to a charity of the clubs choice - our most recent being SHOUT, in which we raised just under £500. These are always optional to participate in so no worries if you’d rather keep the dancing to classes.
Throughout the year we also provide additional opportunities including:
- technique classes, such as heels class, strengthening and stretching
- skill swaps with other sports clubs
- social opportunities for everyone to meet people and make friends within the club.
We are coached by Nottingham Dance and Fitness with our training schedule being:
- Tuesdays: 8 pm - 9 pm (City Campus SU Dance Studio)
- Wednesdays: 7 pm - 8 pm (City Campus SU Dance Studio)
- Thursdays: 6 pm - 7 pm (City Campus SU Dance Studio).
How to join
We hold taster sessions at the beginning of every term to allow you to try burlesque out with no commitment to the club.
Remember we host no auditions - everyone is welcome! Membership cost is £85 (£25 for club plus NTU Sport £50).
If you miss these sessions or need to decide whether burlesque is for you, you can join at any point throughout the academic year with prices adjusted accordingly. NTU Sport offer alternative options for those with bursaries.
Don’t worry about what to wear to classes - wear whatever you’re most comfortable in that you can move about in: T shirts, leggings, shorts, joggers, workout gear etc.
For our shows, your fabulous costume is provided, however we will ask that you provide yourself with items we don’t share for hygiene reasons - for example lingerie, high heels, jewellery which may be additional costs.
If you’d like to join the Tigerlilies to learn all sorts of burlesque styles, train and perform with a beautiful family of NTU students and see your confidence soar, come and find us at Freshers Fair or shoot us a message on any social media and we can chat to you about all things burlesque!
