Football (Women's)

Come and join one of the UK's most successful University Women's Football Clubs! Trent Women's Football has three BUCS teams, all playing games against other universities, along with a fourth non-competitive team, catering for all levels of abilities. We also have 3 Sunday teams who play at Regional and County level in the main FA Pyramid as well as the Women’s FA Cup! Here at TWF we are a very sociable club and take great pride in being one big family.

Join our Football (Women's) club

Come and join in the most popular women’s sport in England! We have four teams catering for all abilities and levels of experience, all of who play games against other universities.

Club overview

Our three BUCS teams play in the national inter-university competition. All teams have weekly coached training sessions, and there is the potential for players to progress between squads as the season progresses.

Daniel Corlett coaches our 1st team. He is a UEFA A Licence candidate with fifteen years of experience working in the women’s game, including at Derby County and Leicester City RTCs, as well as his current role as a 1st Team coach at Nottingham Forest Women. In his eleventh year working at NTU, this is Daniel’s seventh year coaching at the university and fifth running the Women’s Football program. During this time he has led the 1st Team to three Tier 1 League titles and three consecutive BUCS Trophy wins.

The 2nd team is coached by Hugo Rodrigues - a UEFA A student and a Coach Mentor for England Football. He has been a coach at TWF for two years, and this past season led our 2nd team to the Tier 2 title promotion into the Midlands Tier 1 Division for the first time in their history.

Our 3rd team coach is Lewis Atkinson. Lewis is in the process of starting his UEFA C licence, and is also a current NTU student studying Sports Science and Coaching. In the 2022/23 season he led our 3rd team to their most successful season, winning Tier 3 and gaining them promotion into Midlands Tier 2 Division.

Our weekly 4th Team sessions, which are open for anyone to attend, regardless of ability or experience, provide both opportunities for students to play football in a more informal environment along with a development pathway into both our BUCS and Sunday teams for those students who want to progress and represent the university.

We also have three Sunday teams to offer even more playing opportunities. Our Regional team, coached by UEFA B Licence Coach Emma Dennis, plays in East Midland Regional Women’s Football League and is the only university team in the country to play above County level, having won the Nottinghamshire Girls & Ladies league in 2021. They are also the only university side that plays in the Women’s FA Cup and last season also won the EMWRFL League Plate. We also operate two teams currently playing in the Nottinghamshire Girls & Ladies League. Reflecting our playing kit our 'Pink' team, who are led by NTU Alumni Leah Pugh, were League Cup finalists last season and compete in Division 1, whilst the newly established 'Black' team is joining the leagues for this upcoming season.

With seven teams training and playing every week, we are one of the biggest women’s football clubs in the country, and our regular league and cup wins mean there are lots of opportunities to play and succeed during your time with us!

How to get involved

If NTU Women's Football sounds like the place for you, head down to Fresher's Fair during Welcome Week to speak to a committee member, and sign up for the trials. We have also taken on players later in the season who have attended 4th team sessions and shown that they have the ability to join one of our three competitive BUCS sides.

The cost to join the club for the season is £110, which helps cover our coaching and match official fees. After that, the only other items a player is required to buy is playing kit. All players representing the club in BUCS will need to buy a playing shirt, shorts and socks when they join (the department subsidises the cost of the shirt), which will then be theirs to keep. Memberships purchased at any point during the academic year are only valid until the end of term 3.

In season training times are listed below:

  • 1st Team – Monday 4 pm-5 pm (gym) and 5 pm-7 pm (on pitch)
  • 2nd Team – Monday 8 pm-9 pm (on pitch)
