Have you ever wanted to play rugby, but been worried about all the harsh contact? Join Touch Rugby! It’s just like normal rugby but stripped down to its core skills. Touch Rugby is a sport for all, no matter your gender, ability or your age. If you can catch, run and pass a ball you can play Touch Rugby. As it is a minimal contact format men and women all play on the same pitch. We offer 2 training sessions a week, with coaches from the England Touch setup.
We run 2 training sessions a week and compete in a range of tournaments and friendlies throughout the academic year. Also, after these games we offer social events, which are great chances to get to know everyone in the club.
In the 2019/20 season we were able to compete in a friendly round-robin tournament and a UNTS tournament. The friendly round-robin tournament was a good way to introduce new players in a competitive environment. The UNTS (Universal National Touch Series) tournament was our first real competitive tournament that involved 17 universities. As a new team entering the tournament last year, we managed to win the Shield and come back with some silverware.
We are also proud to have players that play Touch Rugby at an elite national level, our very own President and Secretary of the club. These two showcase an excellent array of skills through playing and are very understanding when it comes to teaching newer players the ropes.
Our Saturday training sessions will be held by CEO of England Touch, the legendary Chris Simon he holds many accolades and achievements. Just to name a few, he has established the Nottingham Rugby Touch league, represented England’s Men’s 35s at the 2010s European Touch Championships and coaches at regional level in the midlands.
If Chris is busy handling the England Touch Association, our sessions will be held by our President and Secretary Will Lupton and Lucy Norburn, who have represented England on multiple occasions in Touch Rugby.
University National Touch Series (UNTS)
Currently, we field one mixed team in the UNTS that play in tournaments throughout the year.
