NTU Badminton is one of the largest clubs at the University and is a friendly community for all players. We want to continue to grow and encourage more students to pick up a racket and play so come down to one of our sessions and give it a go!
We want you to join NTU Badminton! We are one of the largest clubs at the university because of our friendly and fun community. We have many different competitive teams for all levels of badminton players and great social sessions for people who just want to have fun. So, no matter your standard there is a place for you in our badminton club
NTU Badminton is a well-established club that has been running for a number of years. Our club caters for players of all abilities, whether you want to compete at a high level for the University or simply enjoy the friendly social sessions, everyone is welcome.
NTU Badminton has five teams in total; a Men’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd team and a Women’s 1st and 2nd team who compete in BUCS fixtures.
We also have two development teams (one male and one female) to help those players develop their skills and compete against local league teams in highly enjoyable and competitive games on Sundays throughout the year.
We have one of the biggest social clubs in the University with social sessions costing just £2 per session or free for NTU sport members. They take place in a friendly environment suitable for new or returning players and are a great way to make friends.
NTU Badminton have weekly socials on a Wednesday to Ocean which has grown considerably over the past year and we only plan for it to get bigger. We also arrange regular non-alcoholic socials such as Bowling, Ice Skating and Planet Bounce over the course of the year to cater for everyone across the club. Other events in the calendar include Sports Tour, Boat Ball and Sports Ball which are all great events to celebrate the success of year and let your hair down.
Hi, I'm Erin the president for NTU Badminton this year, 20/21. I joined NTU Badminton in my first year, i'd played badminton in secondary school but that was the extend of my badminton experience so was a little nervous to trail for teams but, trailing was the best decision as I went on to be women's seconds team captain last year. The club was so welcoming making my uni experience 10 times better! There is a perfect balance of competitive sport for those who want it while being friendly and fun with an excellent social side.
I would recommend NTU Badminton to anyone and as president this year hope to make everyone's experience just as good or even better than my own!
NTU Badminton is coached by Greg Mairs who is a very experienced badminton player. He plays for Loughborough 1st team and is currently ranked number 4 for mixed doubles in the UK. He competes internationally as well as in the UK and won the men’s doubles at BUCS individuals in 2018.
British universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS)
Our teams compete against other universities most Wednesday (BUCS Wednesdays) in both home and away in the BUCS league.
Our biggest event of the year is the BUCS Individuals Tournament where every University in the UK comes together to compete against each other over the course of one weekend in Sheffield. Every year NTU has had a great turnout of supporters for the event, making our University heard loud and proud!
NTU Badminton also competes in the iconic Varsity on Super Wednesday where teams go head to head with our rivals the University of Nottingham. It is an important part of our club’s calendar and a great day out for all competing and spectating.
