Join our Tennis club

Whether you're new to the sport, picking up a racket for the first time in a while, or looking to continue with a structured weekly coaching & competition programme, NTU Tennis are sure to have something for you!

We offer a three-tiered participation programme, which caters for every level of player, whatever their motivation. Our comprehensive programme offers a pathway for NTU students and staff from beginner to BUCS student team-level. We are committed to developing a diverse and inclusive offer, including NTU’s disability student population. We have equipment available, including sports chairs for use by any wheelchair user, for anyone who wishes to engage with our programme. NTU Tennis Club is based at NTU Sport's state of the art 4-court indoor tennis centre on Nottingham Trent University's Clifton Campus.

Represent

NTU Tennis Club has 6 men's and 3 women's BUCS teams that compete in weekly team tennis fixtures on a Wednesday in the BUCS Team Championships. In 2022-23, we recorded the highest BUCS points haul in our history, recognising the significant progress of our BUCS programme. Our Men's & Women's 1st teams compete in the Midlands Tier 1 league: the 3rd tier of BUCS Team Tennis. Students within the 9 BUCS teams train up to 3 times per week in team training sessions delivered by NTU staff that are LTA Accredited coaches and have additional opportunities to train and play at other times, with specific scheduling depending on your level and ability.

NTU students also have the opportunity to represent the university in individual tennis competition, including the BUCS Tennis Individual Championships – Singles, Doubles and Wheelchair competitions.

Upon invitation our high-performance athletes receive:

· Access to coach lead Strength & Conditioning programmes

· Access to physiotherapy/sports therapy

· Access to group interventions in sports psychology and sports lifestyle.

If you have any questions about our BUCS programme, you can contact our Head Coach – Callum Chivers – via callum.chivers@ntu.ac.uk.

In addition to our BUCS teams, we also have a number of local league teams that represent the university at weekends in regular team tennis fixtures in the Nottinghamshire Winter League.

Compete

Tennis

NTU Tennis offers a range of regular and one-off intramural (internal) competitive opportunities for students who are interested in playing matches and tennis competition against other NTU students.

Tennis Box Leagues

The NTU Tennis Intramural Box Leagues involve regular tennis matches against players of similar playing experience/ability within a competitive, organised league structure. Players arrange matches and compete in their own time (with allocated court time available) to complete matches before a deadline set by the organiser.

Tennis One-off Matchplay Events

There are also regular one-off Matchplay events where students can test their match play skills in more formalised, organised individual competition using a round robin-style format. Matchplays happen twice per term.

Tennis Club Championships

The annual NTU Tennis Club Championships is for everyone in the club to battle it out to become champion in a range of competitions (singles, doubles) for the academic year! The Finals Day is a great social event to celebrate the year of tennis at NTU. Email us (NTU Tennis) for more information about how to get involved!

Play

Playing tennis doesn’t have to mean a big, long-term commitment, we run regular Play for Fun sessions that focus on making tennis sociable, inclusive and enjoyable.

There is no requirement to join the club and sessions are pay as you go. All sessions must be booked in advance on the NTU Sport App.
