Welcome to NTU Tennis! Whether you’re new to the sport, picking up a racket for the first time in a while, or looking to continue with a structured weekly training and competition programme, we’re sure to have something for you. Learn, play and enjoy tennis and make some great friends along the way with Nottingham Trent University Tennis Club.
NTU Tennis Club is based at NTU Sport's state of the art 4-court indoor tennis centre on Nottingham Trent University's Clifton Campus.
We offer a three-tiered participation programme, which caters for every level of player, whatever their motivation. Our comprehensive programme offers a pathway for NTU students and staff from beginner to BUCS student team-level. We are committed to developing a diverse and inclusive offer, including NTU’s disability student population. We have equipment available including sports chairs for use by any wheelchair user who wishes to engage with our programme.
NTU Tennis Club members enjoy access to indoor tennis courts at NTU Tennis Centre, professional coaching from our Head Coach and NTU Tennis Team and competitive opportunities to represent Nottingham Trent University at all levels.
Our weekly Play for Fun social tennis sessions are exactly that; no commitment, just turn up and play for fun! Our enthusiastic session leaders promote a welcoming and sociable environment for students that want to give tennis a go.
Our Development tennis programme is for students who just missed out on BUCS team selection and/or would like to access weekly coaching sessions and opportunities to represent the university at tennis, including the University Development League.
If selected, you have the chance to represent NTU in the BUCS Team Championships, competing across the country against other universities. You will also have access to a number of coaching sessions per week with our Head Coach – Callum Chivers.
In addition to playing, our workforce development programme provides NTU students with a range of career progression opportunities, including; coaching qualifications, volunteer experience, workshops and more. Hi, I'm Adam, the President of NTU Tennis for the 2020/21 season. As I enter my fourth year as a Trent student, I couldn't be more thrilled to be heading up such a great club, full of passion, togetherness and teamwork. Each year, NTU Tennis has given me some of my best memories, on and off the court. From late night victories in the state of the art Tennis Centre, to memorable away trips across the country, a very entertaining Alumni occasion or a more serious Varsity fixture.
Each experience comes with the same energetic spark, relished with all your teammates. The inclusivity throughout the club, regardless of skill level, is admirable. Our social events are enjoyed by all, be it a day out Paintballing or a celebratory night at Nottingham's famous Ocean.
NTU Tennis is a great place to ignite new friendships that will last throughout University and for many years after, whilst having some of your most unforgettable moments on the court.
British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS)
2018-19 was one of the most successful years on record for NTU Tennis, where 75% of our teams picked up silverware in league and knockout competition, including our Women’s 1st team going the whole season unbeaten!
In 2019-20, we recorded the highest BUCS points haul in our history recognising the significant progress of our BUCS programme. In part, this was due to the promotion of 2 of our teams, including the Men’s 1st team gaining promotion into Midlands 1; the third tier of BUCS Team tennis. This means both our 1st teams will now compete for promotion to the National Premier Tier of the BUCS Team Championships.
On the back of this recent success, we now offer 3 men’s and 3 women’s tennis teams in a bid to continue to build our performance programme and add to our trophy cabinet.
NTU students can also represent the university in the BUCS Tennis Individual Championships (singles, doubles & wheelchair competitions), which takes place in the second half of the academic year.
Our BUCS programme is headed up by NTU Tennis Head Coach, Callum Chivers. If you have any questions on our BUCS offer, please contact Callum on firstname.lastname@example.org.
