BUCS Weekly Review - A great week for NTU Lacrosse
19 October 2023
Another busy week of fixtures for our teams in Pink, with BUCS league programmes well under way and NTU teams giving it their all to get wins on the board.

We would first like to say a huge well done to the Lacrosse club who have had a very successful week across the board, starting with the BUCS Lacrosse 6s: Championship and Trophy event held on Sunday at our very own Clifton Campus.
The event saw 24 institutions compete in a knockout format; our Men’s 1st team narrowly missed out in the Championship final against local rivals University of Nottingham after battling from 3 goals down with a final score of 9-10. Our Women’s 1st team fought hard in the Quarter Finals but also missed out by 1 goal against the University of Exeter, finishing 3-2. Our Men’s 2nd team won the Trophy Final, beating Sheffield Hallam 1st team 4-3. All of this means a vast haul of BUCS points won for NTU!
They then continued their success into this week’s league fixtures, with both our Men’s and Women’s 1s winning away against Newcastle and Birmingham respectively, and wins for both our Men’s and Women’s 2s at Home against East Anglia.
Rugby Union also had a very successful day across the board with all teams in action on home turf; our Women’s 1st team at West Bridgford beat Leicester 64-5, and our Men’s 1s, 2s, 4s and 6s all secured wins in their respective leagues.
Over to Hockey where we had our featured games of the week with a double header against rivals University of Exeter in front of a home crowd. Our Women’s team put in a strong performance but Exeter scored a penalty stroke leaving the score 0-1 to them. Our Men’s team fought back hard and finished with a 2-1 win to NTU – a crowd pleaser!
Away from the rain, in Sports Hall 2 at Clifton Women’s Fencing secured their first win of the season against Birmingham, 121 – 118. Our Basketball Men’s and Women’s 2nd teams had a fantastic week in their season openers, both playing Away and winning against Loughborough Men’s 3s (70-97) and De Montfort Women’s 1s (43-53). Our Men’s and Women’s Volleyball 1st teams both played Away too, after a long drive to East Anglia our Men’s 1s came away with a 3-2 win, and our Women’s 1s beat Lincoln 1s 3-0.
Good luck to our teams competing at the weekend in their first BUCS fixtures; Men’s Indoor Cricket and Gaelic Football, as well as Men’s Futsal who will face Newcastle in Prem North on Sunday, 16:30 kick-off at Clifton Sports Hub.
