BUCS is back! The 23/24 season is underway for NTU Sport

12 October 2023

Yesterday saw the return of a full schedule of BUCS fixtures for the first time this season, with 58 fixtures taking place across 15 sports. Some fantastic results from our teams this week as NTU aim to maintain their place in the BUCS Top 10 for another year.

NTU mens football first team

At Clifton Campus we kicked off with Men’s Football 1st team sealing a huge 4-0 victory over last year’s league champions University of Stirling – a very strong start to the season for them after their 3-0 win over University of Nottingham last week.

Following them on the 3G were Women’s Lacrosse who faced a tough opposition in University of Edinburgh, but held their nerve to steal a 10-9 victory.

Our featured fixtures of the week were Men’s and Women’s Badminton 1st teams. Men’s Badminton opened their promotion campaign strongly with a 8-0 win over University of Warwick 4th team. Women’s Badminton drew 4-4 with Nottingham 3rd team, securing their first league point on the board.

Later on in the sports hall, our Men’s Volleyball 1st team beat Leicester 3-0 in their season opener and Men’s Basketball beat newly promoted team Worcester 91-63.

Over on the grass we had the first ever NTU Derby in Women’s Football as our 2nd team were promoted last season to join the 1s in Tier 1. A great game from both sides (in very wet conditions!), with our 1st team winning 1-0.

Down at Lady Bay our Men’s Rugby Union 1st team secured their first win, 43-33 over University of Birmingham.

Our Netball 1st team had their season opener over in Manchester, claiming a last second winner to beat MMU 47-46. Rugby League 1st team had a slightly longer journey down to Twickenham, coming away with a 34-20 win against St Mary’s in Premier South. Another strong start to the season for them after their 5th position finish in the Rugby League 9s National Championship last week.

Well done to all our teams and we hope you enjoy another season representing NTU! Good luck to our 3 teams competing in the BUCS Lacrosse 6s Championship & Trophy competition this weekend, hosted at our very own Clifton Campus.
