BUCS Weekly Review – Snowsports successes at British University Dryslope competition

16 November 2023

Another huge week of BUCS activity with over 60 fixtures taking place saw amazing results for Hockey, Basketball, Rugby League and Lacrosse!

NTU Snowsports at British University Dryslope competition

Starting with the weekend round up, big congratulations go to Harry Plant and Joe Van Der Plank who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Snowboard Giant Slalom race at British University Dryslope competition in Edinburgh on Friday! The pair come away with 4 BUCS medals in total in a great showing for NTU Snowsports.

Onto our weekly league programme, where our Premier teams are nearing the last few fixtures of their league season. A huge win for Women’s Hockey 1st team at Clifton, beating Newcastle 1-0 in the National League, moving them out of the relegation zone ahead of Bath and Newcastle.

Our featured match of the week, Rugby League 1st team, had a nail-biting game against St Mary’s after having beaten them comfortably at the start of the season, coming away with a 26-24 win in Prem South.

Away from home, another 2 big wins for Basketball. Men’s Basketball 1st team beat Worcester 59-103, putting them 3rd in Prem North, only their second season in this league. Women’s Basketball 1st team also came away with a win beating Edinburgh 53-64. A very tight league table in Women’s Basketball Prem North with the bottom 3 teams tied on league points- NTU going ahead of Durham after having beaten them earlier this month, with 3 games to go.

Men’s Lacrosse, who haven’t lost a game so far this season, beat Manchester Met 3-25, making it very hard for them to be caught at the top of the league table after having beaten 2nd placed University of Nottingham last week. A long trip to Edinburgh with Basketball, Women’s Lacrosse drew 14 all with Edinburgh 1st – another league point on the board leaving them in 3rd place behind Nottingham and Durham.

A busy weekend of sport in store for NTU, with the following BUCS Events taking place and some of our NTU Sport Scholars in action – stay tuned for the results next week!

  • Table Tennis: Individual & Doubles Championships, Nottingham
Swimming & Para Swimming: Short Course Championships, Sheffield
  • Canoe: Wild Water Racing Championships, Perth & Kinross
  • Duathlon Championships, Kirkby Mallory
  • Tennis: Doubles Championships, Shrewsbury

Congratulations to everyone for this week, and best of luck to all competing this weekend!
