BUCS Weekly Review – A wet week but our teams in pink continue to shine

2 November 2023

The start of November BUCS action means we are now half-way through our Term 1 fixture programme. A soggy week on Clifton Campus with a few postponements due to the rain, but some bright pink performances to make up for it!

Starting with the weekend round-up, both American and Gaelic Football had their first fixtures due to a later start in their programme. American Football beat Leicester 34-8 at Clifton Campus, whilst over at Riverside Gaelic Football took the win against close rivals Loughborough Uni 16-10. Two fantastic results to start their season off.

Touch Rugby had their first tournament of the season in Nottingham, winning the first Northern Regional Qualifier which puts them in a strong position for the National Championships.

Our featured games of the week were Men’s and Women’s Fencing 1st teams. The Men’s lost out to a tough opponent in Loughborough 1s. The women’s team, featuring NTU Sport scholar Ellie Jackson, came out on top against Oxford Brookes 1s to win 131-103.

Also on home turf, Men’s Hockey 2nd team faced Edinburgh Men’s 1st, after having lost 11-0 to them in the Vase last season, they showed their vast improvement with an outstanding 5-4 win!

Our Prem teams made the journey up to Durham this week and they made the most of it. A goal-fest for Men’s Football 1st team who beat Durham 1s 5-6, taking them to the top of the Premier League table with 4 wins and only 1 loss so far this season. Women’s Basketball were another team who have shown their improvement, having lost to Durham twice in the league in the 22-23 season, they won 57-105 yesterday, putting them ahead of Durham in the league table and giving them a huge boost moving forwards!

Congratulations to all teams this week, great to see so many teams getting huge results!
