Futsal with last gasp winner to go top of the league! – BUCS Week 13

3 February 2023

Week 13 and back to a bumper fixture list for our NTU teams.

Men's Futsal

We start this week on Sunday’s futsal result. Our Men’s Futsal 1st team faced a top of the table clash with early pace setters Loughborough University in Premier North. It was, as expected, a tense affair with both sides exchanging the lead. It went right down to the wire… 9-9 with minutes left and NTU managed to score in dramatic fashion, taking the victory 10-9. This puts them top of Premier North with 2 games remaining.

On to Wednesday and our Men’s Rugby League 1st team finished the league season in style, beating St Marys University 54-16 cementing 3rd place in the Premier South – their highest ever finish. A great achievement from all involved.

Away from home, the Men’s Basketball 1st team also finished their regular season with a strong win at Northumbria University. A 69-81 win mean the newly promoted team have finished 3rdin their first ever season in the top tier, missing out in a 3-way tie to come 2nd. This sets them up for a nice run in the cup.

The last 3 ROTW are cups results. 1st up, perennial National Trophy Winner, Women’s Football 1sts took on Edinburgh Women’s 2nds. The team in pink achieved a hard fought 2-0 and safe passage to the quarter finals – one step closer to BUCS Big Wednesday in March.

Also in Trophy action was Men’s Rugby 2nd team against local rivals, University of Nottingham 2nd team. It’s always a landmark occasion against the city rival, and the boys were really on their game, storming to a 46-0 win.

Finally Women’s Badminton 1st’s were in Conference Cup quarter final action against University of Nottingham 4s. Our team won 6-2, giving them a semi-final place and one step away from Midlands Conference Cup final which this year is being held at NTU on the 8th March!
