A big cup week for many of our teams meant some unfamiliar opponents, and eyes on advancing though the rounds to cup glory.

On our Clifton campus, men’s Lacrosse were in National Championship action against University of Exeter for a place in the Semi-finals. Our Men’s Lacrosse 1st team have been serial finalists in the competition and were looking to continue the trend. There was never a doubt in this fixture that the NTU team make the semi-finals, and a 20-1 victory meant they keep their impressive run going.

On Clifton Hockey Pitch the Women’s 1st team faced a University for Bristol team in the National Vase competition. This is a route also to BUCS Big Wednesday show piece for the team, and the chance of winning silverware. It was a tight match, much like many of their games this year. The girls took the lead 2-1 and managed to hold out to win and advance to the next round.

Also in National Vase Competition was Men’s Rugby Union 1st team, facing University of Cardiff 2nd team down at Lady Bay. The team have finished 2nd in the Premier North 1 division, missing out on the BSR (BUCS Super Rugby) playoff so are keen to go far into this competition. A dominant performance followed, winning 50-12, securing a quarter final spot.

In the Midlands Conference cup many teams have got to the semi-final stage, one game away from the finals, that NTU are hosting on the 8th of March. We had 3 teams looking to make the finals.  First up were men’s Football 2nd team, facing University of east Anglia. A win would secure back-to-back Conference cup finals for the 2nd team. It was a dominant display, running out comfortable 4-1 winners.

Over at LWSC, our men’s Fencing 1st team faced Oxford Brookes 1st team in a semi-final showdown. The match consists of 3 weapons, with the score collated with an overall winner decided. NTU won in 2 out of 3 weapons and an overall score of 133-112 to advance to the final.

Finally, on our 3G pitch lacrosse men’s 2nds faced University of Leicester 1st team, with our NTU team dominating also in their league this year. It proved another one-sided win 16-1, to the NTU side. This currently brings a total of 6 NTU teams qualified for conference cup final day on the 8th of March, which promises to be a great day of sport.
