What work had been done by the placement student before you?
The previous Sports Finance Assistant carried out the same tasks as I am doing now. Although she produced/improved handover notes for me to learn from, these made the job a lot easier when I started, and they are always there if I need to double check something.
What is the main thing you are working on at the moment?
I am currently acting as a purchasing agent in processing invoices to be paid and to deal with supplier queries. I am also, processing incoming expense claims and refunds. I manage the club accounts on a regular basis to ensure accuracy.
What had been your favourite part about your role so far?
My favourite part of my role is working in a such a welcoming and friendly team! The work environment is casual and chatty however, it is very productive. So, if there is ever an issue, everyone is willing to help.
What is something big you are looking forward to/ coming up for you in the next few months?
In June, I will be joining the central finance team to lessen the workload in the department. I will be sad to leave the sports department, but I look forward to improving my understanding of the finance systems and taking on new responsibilities.
What has been your favourite experience since you started working in NTU Sport?
My favourite experience was carrying out the term 1 sports finance meetings. I found this a little challenging at first, but I enjoyed getting to know all of the committees and this gave me an insight on how each club runs.
What would you have liked to achieve by the end of your time in the role?
I would like to carry out ad-hoc tasks so that the processes and procedures within the role can be improved. I’m specifically focusing on the handover of my role, so that the next finance assistant will find the learning of the role comfortable.
What will you take from the role into your next work placement?
From the role, I have developed my communication and interpersonal skills. I have learnt how to communicate in a professional manner, whether this is with students or colleagues. My written communication has development vastly, I found sending emails challenging at first but now I send them with ease. On paper I’ve developed many skills, though specifically what I’ve taken from the job is that I want to work in an environment like NTU Sport, which is comfortable and open-minded.
