Role

Dr Coules is responsible for delivering plant and environmental science modules and conducts research in the plant sciences sector.

Research areas

Areas of research interest include:

  • The development of peat-free growing media and peat alternatives for the retail and commercial sector
  • Plant diseases and the control of crop diseases
  • Invasive species- plant and invertebrate

Dr Coules is also involved with commercial trials and is a consultant agronomist.

Opportunities to carry out postgraduate research towards an MPhil / PhD may exist in the following areas:

  • The development of peat-free growing media and peat alternatives for the retail and commercial sector
  • Detection of peat in growing media using pollen analysis
  • Plant diseases and the control of crop diseases
  • Invasive species - plants, diseases and invertebrates
  • Using PCR to identify specific species
