Role
Dr Coules is responsible for delivering plant and environmental science modules and conducts research in the plant sciences sector.
Research areas
Areas of research interest include:
- The development of peat-free growing media and peat alternatives for the retail and commercial sector
- Plant diseases and the control of crop diseases
- Invasive species- plant and invertebrate
Dr Coules is also involved with commercial trials and is a consultant agronomist.
Opportunities to carry out postgraduate research towards an MPhil / PhD may exist in the following areas:
- The development of peat-free growing media and peat alternatives for the retail and commercial sector
- Detection of peat in growing media using pollen analysis
- Plant diseases and the control of crop diseases
- Invasive species - plants, diseases and invertebrates
- Using PCR to identify specific species
