Role

As the Senior Lecturer and Course Leader of the BSc Sound Engineering and Audio Production programme, I am involved in the design, delivery and assessment of the curriculum.

I oversee the course operation, support students, engage in research, and maintain industry partnerships.

Career overview

I started off in bands in my teens, playing bass and trumpet, I became fascinated with the technology side of music and began working in various studios and live venues. I graduated with a BSc in Audio and Recording Technology from De Montfort University. During my studies, I was running the classical, jazz and world music section at the Nottingham Virgin Megastores.

Shortly after graduating, I started teaching degree students in the Audio and Music Technology field, which I enjoyed so much, that I have continued in this career path.

I also qualified with an MSc in Applied Acoustics including the professionally recognised Institute of Acoustics Diploma and my passion is for safe listening and improving the sound quality around us, be it studios, restaurants or classrooms.

I currently hold the Senior Fellowship in Higher Education (SFHEA).

Research areas

I have produced and co-authored various research papers, for the likes of the World Health Organisation, Audio Engineering Society, Institute of Acoustics and Reproduced Sound. I am currently researching Immersive Audio in Education.

External activity

I am a member of the Institute of Acoustics and the Audio Engineering Society, attending and presenting at meetings and conferences and producing research.

I have also written and delivered Audio Forensic courses for the Nottinghamshire Police.
