Role

My role is all about creating exciting, supportive learning experiences - whether that’s in the studio, classroom, or through one-to-one guidance.

I design and deliver engaging lessons that connect theory with real-world practice, and I’m always looking for fresh ways to inspire curiosity and critical thinking. I also work closely with colleagues to keep our courses relevant and forward-thinking.

Outside of teaching, I’m involved in research and creative projects that feed directly into my work with students. I’m proud to be part of a vibrant academic community that’s passionate about innovation, collaboration, and making a difference.

Career overview

Before stepping into teaching, I spent around 12 years as a freelance graphic designer, working mainly with startups to help shape their brand identities and launch their businesses. I thrived on the challenge of turning ideas into impactful visuals - one standout project was designing the food truck graphics for Philly Fry, which you can check out at www.phillyfry.com.

Since graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from NTU in 2019, I’ve built a fulfilling career in education. I currently teach Graphics and Digital Design and Photography to higher education students, following three years teaching Graphics and Digital Design at FE BTEC level. In 2022, I was honoured to receive the FE Tutor of the Year award.

My creative work has been recognised with a high commendation from the Design Council (May 2018), and has been exhibited at Lakeside Arts and Surface Gallery in Nottingham.

Alongside teaching, I co-run a photography business with my wife, which keeps me creatively engaged outside the classroom. I’m passionate about helping students discover their creative voice and develop the skills to express it with confidence and clarity.

External activity

Outside of teaching, I’m a passionate photographer with a particular love for printed imagery and traditional processes like cyanotypes and other hands-on techniques. I find real joy in exploring the tactile side of image-making and experimenting with manual methods that bring a unique character to each piece.

I’m also an enthusiastic artist and designer, with a deep appreciation for creativity in all its forms - from visual communication to music and beyond. My interest in design extends well beyond the classroom, and I’m always seeking new ways to stay creatively inspired.

On a personal level, I’m a proud supporter of Nottingham Forest Football Club, a fan of Nottingham Panthers ice hockey, and a keen follower of Formula One. Music has played a huge role in my life - I spent many years performing in bands, touring, and gigging, which helped shape my collaborative spirit and creative energy.
