Role

Karen specialises in teaching media law and public administration for journalists. She is the Module Leader for Covering the Courts (year one), Keeping Out Of Court at year 2 and in the third year for Limits of Liberty. In addition Karen teaches on the Democracy in Action course in Year One.

Career overview

Karen has experience in all aspects of the print media over the past 30 years as a district reporter, court reporter, sub editor and production journalist, features editor and assistant editor. She has lectured in journalism and has specialised in media law since 2007. Karen led the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ)-accredited award-winning fast-track course at Highbury College, Portsmouth, and was a module leader at the University of Lincoln before taking up her current post at Nottingham Trent University.

External activity

Karen was the chief examiner for the NCTJ law board from 2013-16, and worked with them as an exam setter, marker and moderator.

Karen became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2016.
