Role

Claudia Pearse is a Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Science at Nottingham Trent University (NTU), teaching across foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate programmes. She specialises in Clinical Biochemistry and is a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist.

Claudia leads the Level 6 Applied Biomedical Science Apprenticeship (BSc Hons). She oversees course compliance with professional accreditation requirements, internal quality assurance processes, government apprenticeship regulations, and national education standards including those set by the QAA and Ofsted. Her role involves close collaboration with apprentices, their employers, and NTU colleagues to support high-quality teaching, learning and support.

As part of the teaching and practice pathway, Claudia actively contributes to the biomedical science profession through her work with the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS). She verifies registration portfolios on behalf of the IBMS and serves as Chair of the Nottingham and Derby branch, supporting members—including students and apprentices—in networking and advancing their practice.

Her ongoing professional engagement ensures that the curriculum she delivers remains aligned with current industry standards, preparing graduates to enter the workforce as competent and confident professionals.

Career overview

Claudia began her career as a Biomedical Scientist within the NHS, specialising in Clinical Chemistry. During this time, she developed an interest in academia, initially taking on hourly paid lecturing roles. This experience led to a full-time position as a Workplace Tutor for the Applied Biomedical Science Apprenticeship at NTU, where she supported apprentices in connecting academic theory with workplace practice, evidencing professional standards, and providing pastoral guidance to aid their progression.

Building on these experiences and with further development opportunities, Claudia transitioned into a full-time lecturing role in Biomedical Science. She has since developed her pedagogical expertise and academic leadership, progressing to her current position as Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the Applied Biomedical Science Apprenticeship.
