Role
Vicky is a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, and a Member of the Institute of Biomedical Science. She works as a Lecturer within the Biosciences team teaching on the full time Biomedical Science course and the apprenticeship course. She is the Year Tutor for the second year Biomedical Science Apprenticeship cohort and Module Leader for professional practise and cellular pathology modules. She also teaches on the postgraduate MSc in Biomedical Science on cellular pathology and quality within the workplace.
With over 25 years of experience in Cellular Pathology within the NHS, Vicky brings a wealth of practical knowledge and professional insight to her teaching. Having started her career as a placement student herself, she is a passionate advocate for placement students drawing on her own experience as a student, an employer and trainer to mentor and inspire the next generation of biomedical scientists through their own placement journeys. She has established an IBMS Portfolio Club and digital badges to support and guide students working towards their professional registration and placement years.
Career overview
Vicky graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Biomedical Science from De Montfort University , where she was awarded the prestigious IBMS President’s Prize. She completed her placement year in Cellular Pathology at University Hospitals of Leicester and remained there for the entirety of her 25-year NHS career.
Whilst at Leicester, Vicky became the department’s Training Officer in 2018, supporting numerous students through their IBMS Certificate of Competence and delivering training sessions across the Pathology department. Vicky began teaching at NTU as an HPL in June 2019 and her commitment to education and professional development led her to transition into academia in 2024, taking up a permanent lecturing role at Nottingham Trent University.
External activity
Vicky retains strong links with local hospitals, laboratories and employers which provides continued professional insight into supporting students within Biosciences
She continues her active involvement with the Institute of Biomedical Science as a Registration Portfolio Verifier and Specialist Portfolio Examiner, helping to uphold professional standards and support career progression within the field.
Her dual perspective as a former employer and lecturer allows her to bridge the gap between academic learning and clinical practice, nurturing the next generation of biomedical scientists.
