BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering

he course develops together the theory and practice of civil engineering, with an emphasis on the practical nature of civil engineering and the application and management of current technologies.

What are the differences between these courses?

  • Entry requirements - differ for each course.
  • Course length - varies between courses. BSc and BEng Civil Engineering are three years (or four with a sandwich year). MEng Civil Engineering Design and Construction is an Integrated Masters degree combining undergraduate and postgraduate study in a single course that takes four years (five with a sandwich year).
  • Professional progression - BSc Civil Engineering is recognised by the Engineering Council as fully meeting the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. The BEng is recognised by the Engineering Council as fully meeting the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status and in part for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. The MEng course is the most direct route to becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng), fully satisfying the educational base for the status.

We also offer a Level 6 Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship. This route is aligned to our BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering course. On it, you'll develop valuable industry-specific knowledge whilst gaining work experience with your employer.
