Winter Welcome is the perfect way to settle into life at NTU – and a great introduction to your new student community!

A warm winter welcome to all our students

There are lots of events on offer during your first few weeks to help welcome you to Nottingham Trent University (NTU), the Nottingham Trent Students’ Union (NTSU) and the city itself.

Winter Welcome will take place from Monday 8 January - Friday 2 February 2024. We will be posting a full list of events below so check back to see what you'd like to attend and make sure to get involved.

We recommend that you complete the British Council's Study UK: Prepare to study and live in the UK course before you arrive in the UK. This resource has lots of useful advice about preparing for your studies in the UK that you may find helpful to complete before starting to study at NTU.

Opportunities fairs

Come along to our welcome fairs being held by Nottingham Trent Students’ Union. You can learn more about our societies, clubs and get involved in some fun activities.

Give it a Go

Want to try new things while you're at university? Why not try our Give it a Go (GIAG) program. We run a variety of activities on each campus throughout the year, ranging from creative activities to sports to day trips and more.

Money Matters Workshop

We understand that managing your finances can be a daunting task. That's why we're excited to invite you to our "Money Matters" workshop, where we'll provide you with valuable insights and tools to learn how to budget and help you take control of your financial future. The workshop will be held on MS Teams.

Dates: Wednesday 24 January, Wednesday 21 February and Wednesday 13 March from 1 - 2pm. Make sure you reserve your place.

  • Global Community lunch - Clifton Global Lounge (MAE019) - 12 - 2pm - Come along and grab a delicious free lunch and meet fellow NTU students – all welcome!
  • Language café – City Global Lounge (23 Goldsmith Street) - 5 - 7pm - Are you currently learning a new language, or do you speak a language that is popular with learners? Why not come along to our weekly language café where you can practice languages in a relaxed and friendly manner with fellow language learners – all languages and levels are welcome, including English!
  • Musical Theatre Taster Session - Dance Studio, NTU Music Centre - 6 - 8pm - Interested in musical theatre? Go behind the scenes of NTU Music’s musical theatre workshops led by actress and singer Sarah Rymond. These classes are open to all abilities and are a fun way to hone your skills in performing arts.

  • Drawing class with Hannah Sawtell - Newton Central Court - 12 - 2pm - Work with local illustrator Hannah Sawtell who will guide you through different approaches to drawing, incorporating a range of mixed media. Suitable for all skill levels – materials are provided.
  • Acrylic tile painting - Pavilion, Clifton Campus - 12 - 2pm - Get creative and make your mark on campus by decorating tiles for a collaborative NTU mural.
  • Gardening - Clifton Allotment - 1 - 3pm - Do you have a green thumb and want to help grow food for a good cause? Join our weekly gardening session at the Clifton Allotment (behind Peverell Hall reception) to learn how to grow food and support those in need. All equipment will be provided – please dress appropriately for an outdoor activity.
  • Cultural Diversity - Clifton Global Lounge (MAE019) - 1 - 2pm - In this training session, we will introduce and discuss Culture and Cultural Diversity, explore our personal identities and how those link in to our everyday lives within a global community – part of the Global Employability Award.   • Crafternoon - Clifton Global Lounge (MAE019) and City Global Lounge (23 Goldsmith Street) - 2 - 4pm - Fancy learning a new craft while chatting with other NTU students and making something creative? Join our weekly crafternoon to try your hand at origami, rock painting, mandala colouring and many other fun activities!

Join our weekly gardening session at the Clifton Allotment (behind Peverell Hall reception) to learn how to grow food and support those in need.   • Drumline Tech Class Taster - NTU Music Centre - 7.45 - 8. 30pm - NTU Drumline plays pieces for marching snare drums and bass drums. Join them at this session where you’ll get the chance to see them hone their technical skills and find out what it’s like to be a Drumline member.

Your Student Visa and the Graduate Visa

Not sure how many hours you can work or what jobs you're allowed to do? Confused about attendance monitoring for international students? Wondering how to apply for the graduate visa? We'll cover all these topics and more, so join the International Student Support Service for this online session and learn everything you need to know about your visa.

Working in the UK during your studies

Join the employability team and the International Student Support Service for an online session on working in the UK as an international student. The session will include helpful tips on how to find a part time job, what support is available at NTU as well as a reminder of the student visa conditions and restrictions. Come along and listen or ask all the questions you have in order to get work ready!

Academic Support

We understand that studying in the UK can be very different from studying in your home country. We have dedicated Learning and Teaching Team staff and Student Mentors who offer 1-to-1 support with academic skills, maths, and statistics. Support is available for everyone, and you can easily make a booking online via the NTU Library page. The library also runs lunchtime workshops and webinars on a variety of topics such as referencing and critical thinking. Future events

NTU Global Week

Global Week is a vibrant, inspiring festival showcasing our multicultural community on campus every year. Through art, dancing, sport, and food, it connects and celebrates the different cultural heritages of our students and staff and provides an opportunity for them to extend their international outlook.

Global Week celebrations will take place Monday 26 February to Friday 1 March 2024.
