Clinical Exercise Physiology Laboratory

Based in the Erasmus Darwin Building on Clifton Campus, our Clinical Exercise Physiology laboratory features advanced testing equipment and consultation spaces to support hands-on teaching, clinical assessment, research and real-world professional practice.

About the facility

Our purpose-built Clinical Exercise Physiology laboratory provides a specialist environment for teaching, learning, research and applied clinical practice. Equipped with state-of-the-art testing and monitoring systems, the laboratory enables students to assess, monitor and interpret physiological responses to exercise across a range of clinical and performance contexts.

Designed to support both practical teaching and supervised clinical assessment, the facility includes dedicated consultation rooms for confidential health screening, assessment and client-facing practice. The main laboratory space is equipped with advanced breath-by-breath gas analysis systems, echocardiography and 12-lead ECG devices, alongside a range of ergometers to support cardiovascular, metabolic and functional exercise testing.

This hands-on setting allows students to develop applied clinical competencies aligned with professional standards, while also supporting research activity and community-based health initiatives, helping to build clinical confidence and real-world readiness.
