More about Isobel
Why did you choose to study your course at Brackenhurst?
I chose to do this Equine Course at Brackenhurst because I’ve had a big passion for horses since I was a little girl and have worked with them for years before deciding to get my qualification here.
Tell us more about your course. What do you enjoy studying the most?
I get great enjoyment out of studying both theory and practical, especially since there’s always something new to learn and it never gets boring. The theory is very interesting and covers all aspects from behaviour and welfare to horse health and biology.
What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?
The facilities here at Brackenhurst Equestrian Centre are most superbly brilliant. From the indoor school, to the outdoor school, and of course the stabling for the horses themselves are perfect. It’s a NEWC accredited yard and provides a horse walker and livery for those wishing to house their horses on the grounds. The indoor school is really spacious, and I enjoy being able to be ride in an outdoor and indoor.
What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?
I would 110% recommend this course for anyone wanting to develop their knowledge on horses and extend their riding ability. Most importantly to really get an inside, horse-centered approach to the Equine Industry. In my spare time I work at a Horse Rescue and Charity, I have a passion and ride Horseback Archery. There’s never a time where I’m not up on my feet working towards what I want out of life.
Have you had any support from other departments? How was your experience accessing these/ was the service helpful?
I have been offered student support but have had no need to be supported. However, for anyone who does struggle the college provides, employability, finance and student support for those who are in need.
What is your top tip for someone considering studying at Brackenhurst Campus?
My top tip is if you really want to study and achieve great things in something that you have a passion for, then studying here at Brackenhurst to achieve the qualifications to go on to develop a career is for you. Whether you have a passion for horses or animal care then studying here is for you to ensure the greatest qualities out of life.
Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?
I’m currently in the first year of my course, but when you get to your second year of this course, you experience work placements. This is a great aspect of the course as it allows you to experience what it’ll be like to work in the Equine Industry or for whatever you’re choosing to take on as a career.
Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?
I would recommend this course to anyone who has a truly deep passion for horses as it really does educate you on the horse’s wellbeing and as I said earlier there’s always something to learn. It does give you an eye opening to different careers with horses. The teaching is up to standard, and the lecturers are brilliant on this course and will always help you out throughout the course.
What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?
After this course, I’m considering staying on for the degree and doing my BHS Stages as it will give more access in the Equine Industry. I’ve worked with a horse charity before moving here to Nottingham and started working at another Horse Rescue, promoting humane behaviour and educating the public on horse welfare. I have a deep passion for the Arabian Horse and would like to further my work with them as well as my horseback archery.
