More about Toby

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose NTU as I wanted to stay in Nottingham, and when researching for business courses, I found an overlapping course with fashion, allowing me to blend two of my passions, which then led me to the opportunity to change course in final year to the IFB top-up.

What’s your favourite thing about your course?

I enjoy the community it has created with students from all over the world.

How have you found the course facilities?

I have found the course facilities very well, with them offering many extracurricular trips and opportunities for students.

Have you worked on any live briefs or competitions?

I worked on a live brief with Craghoppers in year 2, where I placed as a runner-up, as well as a live brief with 200 Degrees in year 2, where my group and I won. In third year, we competed in 2 competitons, with Sparks Sunglasses and with L’Oreal, which my group and I won both.

Has your course included any guest speakers or industry trips? What have you enjoyed about this?

We’ve had multiple guest speakers, from different luxury brands and sustainable companies, as well as the opportunity to visit the Paul Smith headquarters, and meet Sir Paul Smith himself.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Vibrant, Diverse, and Unique

What do you think of the creative and cultural scene in Nottingham? Is Nottingham a good city for an Art & Design student?

Yes, I think it allows people to thrive regardless of background or characteristics, there’s no barriers to students creativity.

Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?

I would recommend visit the Nottingham Contemporary Museum

If you could give new students some advice, what would it be?

Attend every lecture/seminar, as theirs is always an important lesson learnt in each.

What do you think of the course staff?

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the course staff, I’ve always had help when I’ve needed it or asked for it.

What’s next for you after NTU?

I have been offered a graduate role in fashion buying, which I have accepted to start in the Summer.

Has the employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?

The employability team has always helped with giving us the necessary resources to look for the right job for us.

Still need help?
