More about Aanchal

What inspired you to choose NBS and this course?

I chose Nottingham Business School for its strong industry integration, practical learning approach, and global reputation. The MSc Finance programme aligned well with my goal of combining technical financial expertise with real-world application.

What motivated you to pursue a postgraduate qualification, and what were you doing before starting the course?

After completing the Chartered Accountancy qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and working as a Financial Advisory and Management Team Leader, I wanted to deepen my global financial perspective. The postgraduate degree enabled me to build advanced analytical and strategic finance skills.

What was the most valuable or enjoyable aspect of your course, and why?

Access to the Bloomberg Terminal and extensive library resources significantly enhanced my practical financial analysis capabilities. Additionally, Personal Development Week and the NBS Business Leaders Lectures provided invaluable exposure to industry leaders and strengthened my professional communication.

Did you take part in any projects, work placements, extra‑curricular activities or experiential learning opportunities?

For the final consultancy project, we worked with a local business client and as the project team leader, I sharpened my project management, leadership and stakeholder communication skills while delivering client-focused outcomes. Participating in the AmplifyME asset management simulation enhanced my portfolio management knowledge, and weekly Global Lounge activities taught me teamwork and cross-cultural communication.

What is your current role, and what does a typical day involve?

I currently work as a Cost Controller at GE Vernova, where I manage cost tracking, budgeting, and reporting. A typical day involves analysing variances, supporting project financial decisions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Which skills or experiences gained at NBS do you use most in your role?

I frequently apply advanced financial analysis skills, along with project management tools, to deliver high-quality business insights. Teamwork, cross-cultural collaboration, and effective stakeholder communication are also central to my role.

What advice would you give to someone considering this course at NBS?

Engage fully with the highly qualified and friendly faculty, as well as the practical resources, industry events and networking opportunities offered by Nottingham Business School to maximise your learning and personal development. Proactively participate in projects and class activities, as they are key to building skills that translate directly into the workplace.

And most importantly, thoroughly enjoy this invaluable experience of lifelong personal and professional learning.
