Everyone has been so helpful, friendly and supportive with my studies. As someone apprehensive about going to university, I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

More about Lauren

What inspired you to choose your course?

"After considering both the Paramedic Science and Ambulance Technician courses, I decided that the Ambulance Technician route would be better suited to me as a practical learner. This route allows me to complete my training in less time than a degree. As a mature student already in employment, I found this course option more compatible with my circumstances than studying a three-year degree. The one-year Ambulance Technician course covers all the Year 1 modules of the Paramedic Science course, with the addition of maternity care, allowing me to gain my theory and practical knowledge and be on the road quicker. NTU Mansfield also appealed to me as a mature student who wasn’t looking for the hustle and bustle of city campus life."

What made you choose this subject area?

"I am a naturally empathetic person, who also loves a challenge. Due to this, I found this subject to be a fantastic balance of making a difference by caring for people, in a dynamic, ever-changing environment. Ambulance service staff are an integral part of society. They do a fantastic job of caring for the public; I wanted the opportunity to be a part of this and enter a sector that I felt proud to be a part of. While the work is demanding, I’m more than willing to take on the challenge for such a rewarding career."

How is this course helping you achieve your personal or career goals?

"This course has been fantastic at providing me with a solid foundation of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathophysiology, Clinical Practice, and Ethical and Legal studies to develop my knowledge as a technician. The placement blocks are especially valuable, allowing me to apply what I've learned in real-world settings under the guidance of a Practice Educator.

Whether you are looking to join East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) or a similar trust, this course allows you to show your skills and competence through a portfolio, you can use to present to future employers.

This course is a great foot in the door to all things ambulance service-related. Whether you want to stay as a technician or further develop in the future, it provides you with the skills needed for an exciting new career."

What attracted you to study at the Mansfield Hub?

"I liked that NTU Mansfield has quite a few mature students. Starting Higher Education at 27, I wasn't looking for the typical university experience. I wanted a place focused on education, but with a supportive and social environment—and Mansfield offered exactly that."

What do you hope to gain or achieve by being part of the NTU Mansfield community?

"NTU Mansfield has been a place where I have genuinely made some friends for life and the lecturing staff have been fantastic. Everyone is extremely friendly, and it’s a supportive and inclusive space for anyone studying at NTU Mansfield."

What makes the Mansfield Hub different from other study locations or campuses?

"There is plenty of space for both downtime and study. You can’t forget free parking! It doesn’t feel as busy either which is nice for people looking for a more relaxed experience. The library is a good size with all the resources that you need, the third floor is a great place to socialise or relax during free periods. Plus, the terrace is lovely in the sun."

Can you tell us about any positive experiences at NTU Mansfield?

"Everyone has been so helpful, friendly and supportive with my studies. As someone apprehensive about going to university, I genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better experience."

What’s the best thing about being an NTU Mansfield student?

"The people. Everyone has made my experience so enjoyable, and I would highly recommend NTU Mansfield to anyone."
