More about Jessica

Why NTU…

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I mainly selected NTU due to location, however I was aware of NTU being selected as best university and I was excited due to the course being the first one!

Could you describe your experience of being an NTU student?

It has been challenging certainly due to the nature of the course, but I have made friends which I feel will be with me for a very long time after I have finished. I have found the lecturers to have varied teaching techniques and approachable.

How would you describe the support from your tutors, university staff and student services?

If I have a question or query the tutors are there to help, there are many routes to take to contact them and student services are easily located! The staff in the stores and canteens are so friendly and knowledgeable.

On Placement...

Have you completed any work placements on your course? If so, tell us about your experience – where did you go, what did you do, what skills have you gained and what have you enjoyed the most?

I have a placement at a nearby ambulance station and respond to jobs all over Nottingham, derby, chesterfield. I feel I have had a very supportive practice educator and the technicians and ECA’s have been very supportive, friendly and helpful. I am soon to go onto hospital placement and work within the theatres, so I am excited about that.

Do you have any memorable moments from your placement?

My first day of placement, I was made to feel very comfortable, given a tour of the station and talked through they way things are done. I feel I am where I should be at my level of training.

Do you have any advice for future students going on placement?

Listen to the advice that every member of staff gives or shows you. No matter what their job role is… everyone has great experience to pass on. Oh… and take lots of treats with you!!

Outside of the Lecture Theatre…

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Lively, supportive, friendly

Where is a good place to eat, drink or visit in the city?

Ania’s Polish restaurant, Mansfield Road, Sherwood!

You have to go to the ice arena , if you like cats… check out the Kitty café and the shop forbidden planet!

Did you find it easy to make friends and settle in at NTU?

I did, on my first day, everyone was so talkative and easy to get along with.

The Next Steps…

Has the employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?

They have given lots of advice and opportunities for the future, financial support is also there.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of applying to NTU?

As I am a mature student and a mother. I appeal to the ‘older’ generation… what are you waiting for? go and do it! I am so happy I took this step at my age where I am doing something for me, for once!

What is one thing you wish you knew before starting at NTU?

That having a stationary obsession is a bad thing!!
