Nottingham Civic Hub

We are NTU’s dedicated unit responsible for leading, coordinating and championing the University’s civic mission. We act as NTU’s central hub for civic activity, bringing together colleagues from across the University and partners from local communities, business, the public sector and the voluntary sector.

What we do

We bring together the University and local stakeholders for the benefit of the local area, to collaborate on addressing the key challenges of the localities we serve. Working in partnership, we oversee a range of civic engagement programmes which support placemaking - helping the local economy to thrive, reducing health inequalities and strengthening access to education.

Ongoing partnerships

Universities for Nottingham

Universities for Nottingham is a collaborative partnership of ten organisations from across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Together, we work to support our residents and communities by reimagining how universities and local partners can collaborate for meaningful, long‑term impact.

By bringing together our shared strengths and values, we work collectively to enhance economic prosperity, promote environmental sustainability, and improve health and wellbeing.

Central to our mission is strengthening connections across education and skills, helping to create inclusive opportunities and a more resilient future for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Mansfield and Ashfield

NTU works in partnership with local stakeholders to celebrate, promote and grow everything that Ashfield and Mansfield has to offer.

Working with local communities, the Make it in Mansfield and Discover Ashfield place boards and public sector partners, we’ve helped improve educational outcomes, supported new businesses to emerge and prosper, and championed a wealth of community success stories.

Grounded in genuine co-development, our innovative approaches are rooted in local priorities, and have attracted significant investment into the area, driving sustainable growth and contributing to social, cultural, educational, economic and health benefits.

NTU in Clifton

NTU is committed to empowering Clifton’s communities and helping local people overcome the challenges they face.

Our Sport and Wellbeing Academy on our Clifton campus provides exercise referral programmes that welcome residents looking to improve their physical and mental health, contributing to stronger local health outcomes.

Through the Clifton Together Project, we collaborate with local partners to shape brighter futures for young people.

Working together with residents, community leaders, and public sector organisations, NTU also plays a key role in supporting the Clifton Neighbourhood Board, convened as part of the Government’s £20 million Plan for Neighbourhoods.

NTU and Nottingham University Hospitals Trust

Through the partnership between Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), including Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City Hospital, academic expertise and frontline healthcare practice come together to deliver real-world impact.

Together, we invest in our workforce through high-quality training that supports career development, confidence, and job satisfaction.

To address nursing workforce recruitment and retention challenges, NTU and NUH have developed an innovative post-registration and postgraduate education model. This continuing professional development (CPD) offer helps NUH staff enhance their leadership skills, broaden their expertise, and support the development of a sustainable future workforce.

NTU and Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust

Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust – which includes King's Mill Hospital and NTU – are building a collaborative partnership rooted in shared values around education, research, and social impact.

Together, we are creating high‑quality professional development opportunities for staff while enabling students to gain meaningful, real‑world learning and employment experience.

By translating research into practice, the partnership supports innovation, enriches learning, and delivers lasting benefits for communities across mid‑Nottinghamshire.

Working with the East Midlands County Combined Authority

NTU has joined forces with the Mayor of the East Midlands, the University of Nottingham, and the University of Derby in pledging to drive inclusive growth across the region.

The agreement sets out a shared commitment to closer collaboration on issues that matter to people, communities, and businesses in the East Midlands. It spans four areas: Education and Skills, Research and Insight, Business Growth and Innovation, and Inclusive Growth.

The East Midlands County Combined Authority (EMCCA) and the universities share a long-term ambition to make the East Midlands one of the most innovative, productive, inclusive, and sustainable regions in the UK. Together, we are aiming to tackle inequalities, strengthen education pathways, drive sector growth, and attract investment.
