MA Journalism graduate celebrates double success in top journalism awards
We’re thrilled to celebrate the success of MA News Journalism (now MA Journalism) alumni, Philip James Lynch (PJ), whose talent and dedication to journalism continue to shine.
Published on 10 October 2025
PJ has been named a winner of the Press 30 Under 30 Awards 2025, an incredible recognition of emerging journalists who are shaping the future of the industry. For more than 60 years, these awards have celebrated excellence and influence across British journalism, with the 30 Under 30 continuing that legacy by highlighting creative, original, and impactful voices making a real difference through their work.
PJ’s achievements don’t stop there as he’s also been nominated for Young Journalist of the Year (Regional) at the Media Freedom Awards 2025.
Organised by the Society of Editors, the Media Freedom Awards celebrate the very best of UK public interest and campaigning journalism. They showcase the vital role journalists play in protecting media freedom, championing the public’s right to know, and holding those in power to account.
The Society of Editors is dedicated to upholding the highest editorial standards, a commitment that gives it the integrity and authority to influence debate on press and broadcasting freedom, ethics, and the culture and business of news media.
Talking about his experiences winning 30 Under 30 Award and being nominated for the Media Freedom Awards 2025, PJ has stated:
“I was delighted to find out I had been nominated for Young Journalist of the Year by the Society of Editors, just one year into my first job. It’s proven to me that it’s always worth chucking your hat in the ring and giving it a go, I almost didn’t bother entering! If you think you have a solid piece of journalism, do not hesitate to enter. To also win one of the Press 30 under 30 awards is amazing. It was totally unexpected, but it feels great receiving recognition for the tough graft put in throughout this year.”
We’re proud to celebrate PJ’s achievements and look forward to Wednesday 12 November 2025, when the awards will be announced at the Underglobe in London. From all of us in the School of Social Sciences and across Nottingham Trent University, best of luck, Philip!
