The Student Success Endowment: Michelle

Theatre Design student Michelle, recipient of the Student Success Endowment, shares how the support of the SSE enabled her to build confidence through a new hobby in archery, and access the tools to excel at NTU and plan towards a bright future after she graduates.

I now feel that I have access to the necessary tools to both excel on my course and begin my post-graduation journey, without being as limited by my financial situation.

Hear what the Student Success Endowment means to Michelle

My name is Michelle and I’m now in my third and final year of my degree in Design for Theatre and Live Performance. My time at NTU feels as though it has flown by and has been filled with so many experiences that wouldn’t have happened anywhere else.

Last year I the Student Success Endowment enabled me to join the NTU Archery society, which really improved my social life and helped me find a healthier balance between studying and socialising. The weekly sessions and social events were a great opportunity to de-stress from university work and explore my growing passion for archery. I have also made friends for life in the society.

I will be using the funding this year to pay my membership fees again to re-join the NTU Archery society. I am incredibly grateful to be able to continue with the sport that I have found such a love for, and which I may not have been able to explore otherwise. With the added stress of final year, archery has been a great way to maintain balance between my social and university work life.

I also used the money towards purchasing a new design tablet for completing my coursework on, which has taken my designs to a whole new level. I now feel that I have access to the necessary tools to both excel on my course and begin my post-graduation journey, without being as limited by my financial situation.

After graduation, I plan to go onto postgraduate study and hope to do a master’s degree in Museum and Heritage next year. I feel that this will open up so many more career prospects for me in the future and will also allow me to continue to develop both professionally and personally.

I would like to sincerely thank anyone who has donated to the Student Success Endowment as it has had such a great impact on my university experience, and also the experiences of many others who are in receipt of the bursary. It really does make a huge difference to our lives and the opportunities we are able to take.
