Richard’s consultancy will be particularly relevant for central and local government bodies, third sector organisations, and charities. It draws upon his own experience of local government and voluntary sector management.

He has a particular interest in working with organisations to understand the impact of emerging policy issues on both organisations and service users. His publications profile demonstrates the range of his work including analysis of the impact of Brexit, food poverty, the emergence of warm spaces, welfare reform and the war in Ukraine.

Examples of recent consultancy and collaboration:

  • Member of Trussell Trust advisory group for the ‘Hunger in the UK’ research programme.
  • Partnership project with the Ministry of Justice to produce a best practice guide for prisoners and ex-offenders who experience debt.
  • Collaboration with Nottingham City Council to analyse the impact of COVID-19 on local authorities.
  • Research with St Ann’s Advice Centre, Nottingham on the need for and impact of warm spaces.
  • Management committee member of Church Action on Poverty.

Throughout the project, Richard provided invaluable insights and feedback on the research topic, methods, instruments, and the final report. It was a pleasure collaborating with him on the project and he was always quick to respond to any of my questions and requests for advice.

Trussell Trust

He [Richard] brings a helpful level of insight and offers really useful critique of our work. He does this in a collaborative way which always feels positive and encouraging. He has  extensive knowledge and experience and I, as well as the organisation, benefit from the way in which he shares them.
