International mobility

Winning team on stage for the European and SMART cities challenge showcase

NTU has over 280 international exchange partners across 45 countries and welcomes over 500 visiting students from around the world, every year. Exchange or fee-paying mobility can be for either a semester or for a whole year, studying a range of modules across our 8 academic schools. We also offer a variety of language and cultural experiences to provide students with the most enriching experience possible.

Many of our schools have developed joint and dual degrees with partner institutions across the world, providing students from both institutions with the opportunity to study overseas as part of their course whilst also immersing themselves into another culture.

Highlighted below are just some of the mobility initiatives that we are very proud to be involved with.

Turing Scheme

NTU will take part in the UK government's new Turing Scheme which will support thousands of students to study and work abroad.

The £110 million scheme will replace the UK's participation in Erasmus+ following departure from the EU. The scheme will allow around 35,000 students to study and undertake work placements both in Europe and across the world, starting in September 2021.

The new scheme will specifically target students from disadvantaged backgrounds and areas which previously saw only a limited number of students benefiting from Erasmus+ funding, making life-changing opportunities accessible to everyone across the country.

To find out more and to discuss partnering with us through the scheme, please contact ntuglobal@ntu.ac.uk.

ISEP

NTU is proud to be a member of ISEP which has exchange programs in over 50 countries on 6 continents. Students live and learn alongside local students for a uniquely immersive experience.

You can find out more on the ISEP website.

Global Summer School

Our Global Summer School was established in 2016 and has grown in popularity ever since. In addition to an intensive and transformational programme of modules developed by our academics, we provide a great social programme and opportunities to gain an insight into Nottingham life and UK culture and to connect with students from across the world.

Our award-winning Global Lounges provide a full schedule of activities to support students, including, for example, an English conversation café for students to develop their English language proficiency.

Short mobility initiatives

In addition to the more structured study abroad and exchange opportunities available to students and staff, we are passionate about the importance of international opportunities and keen to innovate and develop bespoke initiatives.

You can read more about one of these initiatives, our European Creative and SMART Cities Challenge, which saw more than 100 NTU students and 14 academics visit Karlsruhe in Germany and Timisoara in Romania to investigate how can cities and universities can work together to support creativity and innovation.
