About NTU Jiu-Jitsu

As part of the Jiu-Jitsu Foundation, we support members in grading to earn new belts, we take part in two national competitions, and we often collaborate with other East Midlands clubs such as the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University.

Participation in competitions is completely optional. We take part in the Atemi Nationals and Randori Nationals as part of the Jiu-Jitsu Foundation.

Harry Craw, Club President

"NTU Jiu-jitsu is a social club as much as a training club. We make friends, we train hard, and we have fun. Fun is the most important part."

Everything you need to know:

This year, our schedule will be:
- Monday 9pm - 10:30pm (City Campus Dance Studio)
- Friday 6pm - 8pm (City Campus Sports Hall)

All sessions are mixed-level, so we can train beginners and seniors together in all sessions. This is thanks to our smaller session sizes (average 10 members per session).

£87.50 per year

Want to get a feel for the club and sport before joining?

We run taster sessions during Welcome Week at the start of each academic year. Keep an eye on our club social media for updates or email us for more information.

Alternatively, head to the NTU Welcome website to see all available sessions!

We don’t offer any specific Play for Fun sessions. However, anyone who wants to play will be able to train as part of the club with no pressure to compete and we cater to all levels.

Each year we accept a number of athletes on scholarships across a range of sports. Each scholarship application is judged on a case-by-case basis, and we encourage athletes from all sports who are interested to take a look at the information on the Sport scholarships web page. If you have any questions, please email sportscholarships@ntu.ac.uk or call +44 (0)115 848 3219.

Our club sessions are run by a qualified instructor at all times, which will be Stephen Wood. If Stephen is not available, another qualified instructor will be brought in. These instructors are certified by The Jiu-Jitsu Foundation, our national organisation for Jiu-Jitsu, because they have passed rigorous testing to achieve a minimum of Brown Belt (second highest grade) with the additional instructor training.
