Women’s Basketball is the newest club at NTU having previously been a joint club with the men’s teams. We are able to offer a wide range of opportunities to players with all abilities! Our basketball community has become really close and we all enjoy social events together.
Over the past few years the women’s programme has grown significantly and we are now classed as a performance sport.
As well as having two teams that compete in regular BUCS games, probably the biggest fixture of the year is the Basketball Varsity match.
Even though both teams will show the highest level of ambition and competition on court, we will be celebrating our friendship all together after off court! Varsity matches from previous years are found on the YouTube channel of Trent TV and if you haven’t yet done so, make sure to check them out soon to get a feel for the great atmosphere in the NTU basketball community.
If you are new to the game or have been playing for many years, we are more than happy to welcome you into the basketball family!
Currently, we have two coaches, both having a level 2 coaching qualification:
Louise Waghorn (head coach and coach for 1st team) and
Steven Lindsey (coach for 2nd team)
British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS)
We currently have 2 teams competing in the BUCS league in which games takes place every Wednesday. We can proudly announce that 1st team will participate in the Premier Division and 2nd team in the 3rd Division in the upcoming season 2018/19.
In order to compete in the BUCS league with one of our Trent teams, you will have to have an NTU sports membership and pay an affiliation fee.
Over the past few years the women’s programme has grown significantly and we are now classed as a performance sport. Our 1st team has gone from Division 2 up to Premier Division in just 3 years with winning the cup, 2 league titles, 2 promotions, and the repetitive defeat of the University of Nottingham under their belt.
Our 2nd team has also made huge steps forward helping to progress people who have hardly played basketball up to players that have improved so vastly that they were able to gain playing experience with 1st team.
Practice / meeting schedule
Both, 1st team and 2nd team train 2 times a week whereas they have one independent session each and one session in which the teams train together.
Players who will yet need some more experience in order to be on a BUCS-competing team will be able to train together with the 2nd team. 1st team also receive additional Strength and Conditioning training which is led by qualified fitness coaches.
Come along to our taster sessions in the first term - it's completely free and there is no obligation to sign up.
