What is the Sport Access Fund?

The Sport Access Fund (SAF) is an initiative that aims to enable students to get involved in Sport at University who otherwise would not be able to do so.

Can anyone apply?

Yes. The SAF is open to all NTU Students who would not otherwise be able to participate University Sport programs. This includes Sport Clubs, Pink (Gym) Memberships, intramural leagues, and Play for Fun.

Applications will be reviewed by NTU Sport; however, in some cases it may be necessary for other colleagues to be contacted to reach a decision. For some applications it may be necessary for additional supporting evidence to be sought by yourself, for the panel to reach a decision.

Please note, we are unable to make reimbursements for any purchases you make prior to our decision.

We recognise that there is a lot of pressure around the deadline for Club Membership therefore, an automatic extension for this deadline will be granted until a decision regarding the application has been made.

What are the criteria?

Although anyone can apply for financial support through the fund, SAF will prioritise the following students in line with the University’s Access and Participation Plan:

  • Mature students
  • Students from black and/or ethnically diverse communities
  • Estranged and care experienced students
  • Students from low-income households
  • Students with a disability.

Please note: if you are within one of these groups this does not automatically mean you will be granted funding.

What will the fund cover?

If successful, recipients will be allocated a maximum of £150. This will be able to used towards the following:

  • Membership costs
  • Sports equipment
  • Cost of external training sessions
  • NTU Sport kit.

The fund does not cover:

  • Trips (recreational)
  • Competition entry fees
  • Non-essential kit
  • Cost of travel (e.g. bus tickets)
  • Nutrition.
  • Reimbursements for subs, gym membership, equipment or kit already paid for.
