Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)

NTU is a proud supporter of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) programme and is a TASS Dual Career Accredited institution.

NTU is proud to be a long standing supporter of the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) programme. TASS is a Sport England funded partnership between talented athletes, institutions and NGB’s to provide a variety of support to the country’s most exciting young talent allowing those athletes over 16 in education the opportunity to get the very best of their sporting and academic careers without having to choose between the two.

NTU is one of 38 delivery sites across the country and are currently supporting athletes in a range of sports such as Canoeing, Lacrosse, Short Track Speed Skating, Netball and Fencing. Athletes are placed at delivery sites by TASS on a yearly basis with NTU regularly supporting a mixture of NTU and non – NTU students in areas such as Strength & Conditioning, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Psychology and Lifestyle, as well as gaining access to a variety of medical support through a very generous medical support scheme.

NTU has also recently been awarded TASS Dual Career Accreditation which has endorsed the variety of support we offer to our student–athletes, covering our commitment to provide an institution wide dual career policy.  As part of this, the university will provide a variety of provisions to talented athletes, including access to online notes, access to online lectures/resources and planning sessions with academic advisors to create an appropriate academic timeline. We will also do all we can to give athletes maximum flexibility when it comes to their study programmes, such as opportunities to moving seminar/lecture groups (where there are multiple options available), flexible deadlines to assignments (when agreed with academic staff well in advance of the deadline), catch up sessions with lecturers, and, where possible the option to offer an uneven split of credits in the academic year.

Athletes are nominated to be part of the TASS programme through their NGB, however if you have any questions in regards to TASS at NTU, please email chris.campbell@ntu.ac.uk or melanie.wells@ntu.ac.uk.
