Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment

Discover what the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment are doing to tackle issues that impact our NTU community.

We're committed to sustaining a highly effective learning and working environment characterised by fairness, equality of opportunity and the valuing of diversity.

We encourage and welcome input and engagement from students, staff and industry colleagues alike. Alongside the formation of a School Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee, we:

  • Host regular events for our students and colleagues
  • Launched an industry mentoring programme for students
  • Are working to decolonise our curriculum

Athena SWAN

We're proud to be recognised for our commitment to gender equality through our Bronze Award under the Athena SWAN Charter. We have a range of working groups who enhance awareness and engagement within our school community.

Athena SWAN Bronze Award

NTU is proud to hold an Athena SWAN Institutional Bronze Award. Athena SWAN is a charter managed by AdvanceHE which recognises and celebrates good practices in higher education towards the advancement of gender equality: representation, progression and success for all.

Race and Equality

In line with NTU's strategic goals, we at the ADBE Race and Equality Unit are committed to tackling inequality in attainment and outcomes, while fostering inclusivity, enhancing positive experiences, and promoting a sense of belonging for under-represented groups. Our key initiatives include the Closing the Gap project, the annual ADBE EDI Competition, outputs from both internal and external conferences, the annual EDI Networking Event, and various partnership projects.

At NTU we pride ourselves on maintaining an inclusive environment where people can fulfil their potential. Learn more about our Race Equality Charter.

Championing Disability

We are dedicated to enhancing support and accessibility for those with disabilities and long-term health conditions. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone can thrive to reach their full potential.

At NTU we coordinate support and access arrangements for disabled students and students with specific learning difficulties. Working with academic staff, university services and external agencies.
