At Nottingham Business School we make a positive impact on people, business and society. We achieve this by directly engaging with businesses and organisations and being purposeful in all we do, from our educational philosophy focusing on experiential learning and personalisation to our international collaborations and ethical leadership. By being inherently purposeful, we can make deliberate and ambitious steps forwards as pioneering educators, researchers and academics.

Our mission is to "deliver education and research that combines academic excellence with impact upon people, business and society."

Accreditations

Nottingham Business School is accredited by EQUIS and AACSB, which are internationally recognised hallmarks of excellence and quality for business education. The School is accredited by the Small Business Charter, an award that represents NBS's effective business support, entrepreneurship education and engagement with the local economy. NBS is also one of only six UK business schools recognised as a PRME Champion, and held up as an exemplar by the United Nations Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME).

We believe that business is international by its nature, and for being relevant to business and society, business schools should have a direct and comprehensive engagement with organisations in private, public and voluntary sectors.

We also believe that all business organisations have an inherent interest to be and to act responsibly to all their stakeholders in society and thus follow a sustainable path environmentally, socially, financially and economically.

For business education and research to be relevant and have a positive impact on policy, practice and society, direct engagement with business organisations and an internationalist point of view are fundamental necessities.

We believe maximizing the overlap between our research education and engagement with business is both the source of many of our innovations and the most fertile ground for a positive impact on the people we educate, on the knowledge we create and disseminate, on organisations we work with and on the society we live in.

We therefore engage with business, professional bodies and educational networks at an international scale with a strong sense of responsibility and sustainability. In this way our research and education is more directly informed by and relevant to business and societal organisations, and help us to deliver Education that develops confident graduates who make a positive impact on business and society, and Research that impacts business practice and public policy.

40 years of NBS

In 1979, what was then Trent Polytechnic created a School of Business. In 2019, we celebrated our 40th anniversary and reflected upon our rich past and bright future. During the last 40 years, NBS has been a pioneering force in business, management and economics research and education and has seen a significant rise in international accreditations and rankings in recent years.
