Alternative Materials
Alternative Materials is a space where you can explore, experiment, and push your ideas beyond the boundaries of traditional wood and metalworking. Emily Quinn, who leads the area, aims to bring experience from both technical making and the film industry to help you get hands-on with a wide range of exciting materials.
You’ll find everything from rubbers and foams to resins, composites, coatings, and biomaterials. Whether you’re creating early-stage samples or refining a final model, this is a place where you can test, learn, and bring your ideas to life.
There’s also a growing materials library here, where you can get to know unfamiliar substances in a tactile, approachable way. It’s a safe, supportive environment where you’re encouraged to ask questions, try new things, and think differently.
If you’re looking to experiment, problem-solve, or try something new, Alternative Materials is here to help you make it happen.
