More about Vi

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose NTU because of the emerging curriculum, impressive works and projects from alumni, and well invested facilities.

What was your favourite thing about studying in the School of Art & Design?

Our lecturers and tutors were very supportive, coursework and briefs were well put together which offers diverse individual responses and objective reflection.

What do you think of the course facilities? How do they compare to your work in industry?

As the design field and art scene in the UK are top notch in the world, there’s no doubt that the course facilities were incredibly accessible and high quality for every student to be inducted and utilise the equipment for their own projects experimentation.

What job are you currently doing and what does it involve?

Currently, I’m on probation as a graphic design lecturer teaching UK’s level 4 and 5 in Vietnam. I teach graphic design and illustration as well as manage administration in the Graphic Design Department. Besides the office job at college, I still practice my fine art career as I do paintings. Born and bred in a three-generations art family, I’ve always been nurtured with passion for fine arts and surrounded by paintings, which inspire my practice gradually.

How has your experience at NTU helped you in your current role? Are there any skills you gained at NTU that you now use every day?

My course leader, Ms. Begum and her thorough research has always inspired and encouraged me to pursue academic and empowered me to grow my career as a visual communicator in an interdisciplinary approach. During my studies at NTU, self-study skill was the most crucial and beneficial aspect that I use every day to apply into my own practice.

What would your advice be to current Art & Design students?

Don’t fear making mistakes, it’s part of the creative practice and it holds great opportunities for self-improvement and understanding. Embrace the process, it’d lead you out of dead end and onto the “think big”.

What was the process of getting to where you are today?

I’ve spent 6 years of studying my HND, my BA, taking gap year twice to work as graphic designers in multiple fields to realise what I really wanted for my long-term career before choosing NTU for my MA studies.
