The Student Success Endowment: Vani
After moving to the UK from Bulgaria, Vani was looking for community, and creative outlets alongside her Business degree at NTU. With the support of the Student Success Endowment, Vani can participate in activities that help her to feel included in university life.
This has reduced my anxiety, strengthened my sense of belonging, and helped me engage more fully with university life. As a result, I am better able to concentrate on my academic goals while maintaining a healthier balance.
Vani, BA (Hons) Business Management and Marketing
My name is Vani, and I am currently at the end of my second year studying Business Management and Marketing at Nottingham Trent University, preparing to study abroad in September. University has been a transformative experience for me. In my first year, I struggled to step outside my comfort zone and found it difficult to engage with new people and opportunities. However, during my second year, I grew in confidence, joined several societies, took on six additional university roles, including working as a student mentor and course representative, and found the courage to apply for an international study programme.
As the first person in my family to pursue higher education, attending university is a source of immense pride. I chose NTU because it offered the perfect balance between creativity and academic development. Having previously studied graphic design, I have always been passionate about creativity, but I also enjoy writing, research, and critical thinking. Business and Marketing allow me to combine these strengths while preparing for a dynamic career.
Outside of my studies, I enjoy dancing, drawing, and reading. Drawing has always been my biggest passion, as it allows me to express myself and create something meaningful. Moving from Bulgaria to the UK came with challenges, including language barriers, cultural differences, and building new friendships. These experiences have shaped my resilience and motivated me to develop skills such as problem solving and public speaking.
The Student Success Endowment has had a profound impact on my university experience. It has enabled me to pay for society memberships, including the Yoga Sport Club and the Women in Business Society, and invest in a new laptop that supports my academic work. Coming from a less advantaged background, this support has eased a significant burden and allowed me to focus more fully on my studies. I have also set aside part of the funding for future academic resources, such as technology and essential materials.
Beyond financial support, the bursary has improved my wellbeing and confidence. It has allowed me to participate in social and extracurricular activities, particularly through society events that I previously felt unable to access. This has reduced my anxiety, strengthened my sense of belonging, and helped me engage more fully with university life. As a result, I am better able to concentrate on my academic goals while maintaining a healthier balance.
Looking ahead, I am excited about my upcoming study abroad experience and the opportunities it will bring. I plan to use future bursary instalments to support travel and living costs during my time overseas. After graduating, I hope to build a successful career in marketing where I can apply my creativity and knowledge in a meaningful way.
To the donors who support the Student Success Endowment, I am incredibly grateful. Your generosity makes a real difference, enabling students like me to pursue our ambitions with greater confidence. Your support changes lives and creates opportunities.
