Our courses balance theory and practice to address the challenges of modern design. We’ll give you the support to develop as a creative and analytical thinker, with the freedom to discover and progress your own individual design style, vision and philosophy.
You'll work in a studio-based culture that encourages collaborative learning through plenty of hands on work. During the course, you’ll be given the tools to understand the market, social needs and end users, as you explore existing and emerging areas of product design. By the end, you'll have a thorough understanding of how designers guide creative projects as visionaries and leaders.
NTU are joint 5th in the UK for the percentage of Product Design graduates who have found graduate level jobs, or are in further study at professional or HE level within 15 months of graduation (Guardian University Guide 2026).
We're ranked in the Top 15 in the UK for Art & Design (Complete University Guide, 2027).
You’ll work on live project briefs with real industry clients. We’ve already welcomed the likes of Nestlé, PepsiCo, W'innovate, Herman Miller and Speedo onto the course, and that list of big-time industry partners is growing all the time.

Explore your facilities
You’ll work with a range of professional facilities and equipment across our product design courses. From dedicated studio spaces to the study centre and workshops, there’s room and a resource for everyone to learn, work and create!
Product Design Facilities
From our prototyping workshop to our woodwork and metal areas, our CAD suite and electronics lab, we have a range of industry-standard facilities that you will use to develop and design projects.
3D-printing studio
In our 3D Printing facility, you'll be able to produce models on CAD stations and then send it to print for it to be manufactured.
CAD Suite
In our CAD suite you'll use programmes to model designs in 3D space and output them through animations, rapid prototyping and manufacturing machine workshops.
Metal workshop
You'll be fully inducted and trained to operate the machinery in our well-equipped workshop. This space is supplied with metal bending equipment, CNC lathes, 4 axis millers, plasma cutters, laser cutters, water jet cutters, and unique welding machinery.
Prototyping workshops
Our prototyping workshops are the perfect place to test and develop your designs and products. You'll find student product designers, furniture designers and architectural designers in this space.
Wood workshop
For some projects that involve creating models from wood, you'll work in this space filled with the equipment and technical expertise required to support.

The Stoneygate Award Programme
The award is open to offer holders starting a full-time undergraduate degree in September 2026. Each award is worth £3,250 for each year of the three-year taught undergraduate degree and will be paid in termly instalments.
