The facilities and access to industry standard equipment is amazing. I’m able to use studios, camera lenses and gimbals whenever I want and can use them for both uni projects and personal work.

More about Ciara

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I chose NTU because of it’s facilities, employability stats and location. Of course when you are starting a degree you want the confidence that you’ll have a job at the end of it and NTU felt like it could guarantee that. I also love the campus facilities such as the library and  Students’ Union. Finally, I love Nottingham. I’ve visited several times growing up and love how exciting the City is. There’s always something going on to suit every interest!

What’s your favourite thing about your course?

I love that my course is so current and everchanging. Content Creation is a constantly growing industry so there’s always new opportunities arising and new softwares being released that we can use. I also love how small each class is because we all know each other well and have close relationships with our tutors.

How have you found the course facilities?

The facilities and access to industry standard equipment is amazing. I’m able to use studios, camera lenses and gimbals whenever I want and can use them for both uni projects and personal work.

Have you worked on any live briefs or competitions?

In my first year, I worked with Metronome to create content for their live events. In my second year, I worked with Antenna by pitching content ideas for their Instagram page and receiving feedback from their marketing team.

Has your course included any guest speakers or industry trips?

We’ve had trips to the Sidemen Studios and a local Rain and Tank studio where I was able to develop my studio photography skills.

What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?

Lively, welcoming, community focused

What do you think of the creative and cultural scene in Nottingham? Is Nottingham a good city for an Art & Design student?

Nottingham is such a cultural city and has so many arts and music events happening all year round. There are plenty of opportunities to work on creative projects outside of your university work and there’s always something going on that you can get involved in.

Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?

My favourite brunch spot is the Pudding Pantry and Hockley has amazing food and drink places too. I also love Discobowl for bowling and crazy golf.

If you could give new students some advice, what would it be?

Take every opportunity you can whether that’s volunteer projects, extra curriculars, representing your course/ school or simply just taking the time to pick the brains of your lecturers about the industry.

What do you think of the course staff?

Both of my lecturers have been incredibly helpful in steering me and my career in the right direction. They have supported me with both personal and career related issues and queries and I now feel confident in working as a freelancer.

Have you used any of the student support services or NTU’s Employabiliy team? How have you found this experience?

NTU’s employability services have been great for finding part time and casual work opportunities and making my CV as good as possible for applying for more career focused roles.

What’s next for you after NTU?

I plan to work as a freelance photographer, content creator and social media manager with clients in the events and hospitality sectors.
