I am incredibly grateful for the support I received through the Opportunity Bursary scheme. This funding alleviated financial pressures during a critical time and enabled me to pursue experiences that have profoundly shaped who I am today.
More about Elisabeth
I have recently graduated from NTU and as I reflect on my journey since graduation, I am excited to share how the bursary’s impact continues to resonate in my life, and helped me work towards a transformative fundraising event which the bursary and its donors helped make possible.
One of the most defining experiences I’ve had since graduating was completing a two-week hike to Everest Base Camp for charity, through Choose a Challenge. This adventure required months of physical preparation and mental resilience. The bursary was instrumental in making this possible, as it freed up resources that I could allocate towards fundraising and logistical preparations for the trek.
Receiving the Opportunity Bursary during my final year of university helped to reduce my financial stress during exam season, and enabled me to direct my funds and energy towards planning and preparing for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
I was tested in ways I’d never imagined while tackling high altitudes, harsh weather conditions, and challenging terrain. However, each step was deeply rewarding, knowing it was in service of a cause I’m passionate about. The funds I helped to raise went toward the Meningitis Research Foundation, which added an even greater sense of purpose to the experience.
This hike was not just an adventure but a transformative journey. I learned to push my limits, embrace discomfort, and find strength in moments of doubt - lessons that continue to inspire me. Standing at Everest Base Camp, surrounded by breathtaking views, was a humbling reminder of the rewards of perseverance and dedication.
Hiking remains a central part of my life. Since graduating, I have continued to explore new trails, often organising weekend treks with friends or fellow enthusiasts. These outings keep me grounded, providing a space to reflect, recharge, and connect with others who share my passion. Inspired by my Everest experience, I am considering incorporating my love of hiking into future charity initiatives or other community projects.
By taking away some of my financial stress during a pivotal time, the bursary not only supported my academic success but also empowered me to pursue passions that have shaped my path forward. I believe I couldn’t have achieved my final grade without the help of the Opportunity Bursary. I remain deeply grateful for the support that made this growth possible and look forward to staying connected with the bursary community as an example of its long-term impact. Thank you for believing in my potential and for supporting opportunities that will inspire growth and transformation in others.
